Green Mountain Energy Earth Day at Discovery Green
Our Power, Our Planet ™
Saturday, April 25, 2026
12 – 5 pm
FREE!
This April you can power the Earth Day procession at Discovery Green! Houston’s downtown celebration features community artists and projects including a Magpies and Peacocks fashion show, University of Houston, Downtown art installation, Houston recycled goods artist Gleeson Ryan and a community art project by puppet-maker Dennis McNett of Wolfbat.
Other community partners include Citizens’ Environmental Coalition and Magpies & Peacocks.
Discovery Green visitors are invited to participate in mask-making workshops inspiring them to creatively interpret the theme of Our Power, Our Planet. Using recycled materials, these masks will represent endangered animals, plants, ecosystems, natural elements or symbolic representations of the Earth. During the celebration on April 25, participants will wear their masks to join in on a public procession accompanied by 12-foot-tall puppets as part of Reclamation of the Earth created by Wolfbat.
By coming together to create art together the community becomes the fuel for the procession. We are the power that can protect our planet.
The University of Houston-Downtown will also be featured, with mission-driven artwork by students from the Department of Arts and Communication displayed in an open-air gallery, showcasing creativity inspired by environmental stewardship.
UHD’s Center for Urban Agriculture and Sustainability will provide student volunteers to support zero-waste operations in partnership with CEC / Zero Waste Houston.

KIDS ZONE: SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH CREATIVITY
The 2026 Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” calls on our community to use their voices to drive change that betters our earth and our city. This mosaic is a reminder of the power of collective action: that small actions, when done in coordination and with shared purpose, can create large-scale impact.
This mosaic, created by the community over the course of today’s Earth Day celebration, represents thousands of environmental actions that Houstonians are committing to make in the next month.
Each community member who attached a bottle cap to the mosaic made a personal “Eco-mmitment” to a environmental action of their choice. Participants will each take home a “Commitment Card” and receive email reminders over the course of the month to help them succeed.
Fun fact: The color of each bottle cap represents the type of action the community member committed to, which makes the completed mural a graphical representation of our actions!
