Green Mountain Energy Earth Day

Sunday, April 14, 12–5 p.m.

Presented by Green Mountain Energy in partnership with the Citizens Environmental Coalition, Discovery Green’s citywide EarthDay celebration is designed to educate, inspire and encourage action. The event features displays, exhibits and booths on topics ranging from alternative energy to recycling methods, a foodie farmers market, unplugged – a live music acoustic mini-festival, Earth Talks and more, all in a zero-waste footprint.

  *   Solar energy displays
  *   Photo opps with electric cars
  *   Bike valet
  *   Tips and tools to be more green
  *   Trivia contests
  *   Healthy living activities
  *   Opportunities to learn about clean air, clean water, local wildlife, bird-watching destinations, bike routes, recycling and trash, prairies, sea turtles, Galveston Bay, youth programs, mosquito control, pollution prevention, nature parks and much more.

Exhibitors — more than 80 organizations are exhibiting, including around 30 that are participating in the foodie farmers market, managed by Urban Harvest. Some exhibits include:

  *   a giant Metro Bus
  *   a tiny house
  *   an art car decorated with plastic pollution
  *   bike valet
  *   an electric car petting zoo

Earth Talks — short, engaging presentations about local environmental efforts. These will be shared via Facebook Live. Speakers include:
Go Zero Waste — Each garbage can will have companion containers for recycling and composting--and will be monitored by recycling ambassadors who will be educating visitors. We will track what items are headed for the landfill and the cumulative weight of the waste collected at the event.
