Celebrate & remember

Friday, November 1
7 – 10 pm

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday where families and friends gather to celebrate, remember and prepare special foods in honor of those who are no longer living.

Families will enjoy hands-on art activities, artist demos, vendors and more. Expect cultural performances and music by Houston’s own Nick Gaitan playing Tejas Roots Music (boleros, Tex Mex and Chicano Soul). Discovery Green has commissioned Houston artist Angel Quesada to build a community ofrenda, or altar, to help visitors remember their loved ones during Día de los Muertos.

Visitors are invited to place images or recuerdos of their loved ones on the community altar. (Copies of photos only. Please do not bring anything irreplaceable.)

Sarofim Picnic Lawn

The Sarofim Picnic Lawn is a wide-open lawn space that is perfect for more than just a picnic. The Lawn is near the John P. McGovern Playground, the Mist Tree, and the Kinder Large Dog and the Harriet and Joe Foster Dog Runs, making it a perfect place for family get-togethers, such as reunions or birthday parties. The Lawn can also accommodate small private corporate events or client receptions. The Lawn has two permanent picnic tables, and borders the Andrea and Bill White Promenade.
