It was a particularly warm and windy day at Green Mountain Energy Ice, but the skaters – some on wheels and some on blades – didn’t let the sheen of water dampen their fun. It was Special Skaters night at the rink and it was their time to let loose.
Non-motorized wheelchairs are always allowed on the ice, but Special Skaters night gives those with special needs the opportunity to enjoy the rink with a smaller crowd and their families right by their sides. For caretakers who didn’t want to skate, spikes were provided for extra safety and security on the ice. Best of all – special skaters skated for free!
Some skaters were speed demons, whipping around the ice without a care in the world. Others were the cautious types, being careful not to slip on the slick and wet surface. Grins and whoops of joy were plentiful. A nice night was had by all.
Winter’s not over yet, Houston! Green Mountain Energy Ice will be open every day until Jan 29. Get out there and enjoy the weather! A portion of every ticket purchased at Green Mountain Energy Ice goes to Discovery Green Conservancy for park maintenance and free programming. If you’d rather just give a donation, that’s cool too. Thank you for your support!
