Free concerts to celebrate Houston jazz

Three Houston parks are teaming up to celebrate the Houston musicians who keep the tradition of jazz alive and bopping. The concert series is made possible by a grant from the Kinder Foundation.

The free, family-friendly concerts will be held every Sunday in March at Emancipation Park, 3018 Emancipation Ave; Sunday, April 9, 16, 23 and 30 at Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney; every Sunday in May at The Water Works in Buffalo Bayou Park, 105 Sabine Street. All concerts will be held from 5 – 7 p.m.

Local and regional musicians representing the best in jazz and its related forms such as gospel, blues zydeco and more will perform. The full lineup of musicians for each park will be announced Jan 31, 2023.

In recent decades Houston has produced some of the biggest stars in contemporary jazz including Jason Moran, Robert Glasper, Eric Harland and Helen Sung. This concert series aims to increase awareness to the city’s contributions to the art form as well as bring Houstonians together to enjoy this cultural heritage.
