Discovery Green Conservancy’s Annual Gala on the Green brought together 350 supporters of the urban green space, raising over $800,000. The fundraiser’s attire was “park chic” with tables across the Grace Event Lawn under a tent.
The event was chaired by Kusum and K. Cody Patel and began with a cocktail reception followed by dinner and a program led by Derrick Shore, co-host of KPRC 2 Houston Life. The program also included the announcement that Kinder Foundation initiated an endowment fund for Discovery Green with a generous $2 million gift. After the program guests were invited onto the dance floor with music by Ernest Walker Band.
The event marks Discovery Green’s 15th anniversary, celebrating the diversity of programs, families, and experiences that have shaped the park. Over 20 million visitors have enjoyed exhibitions that invite exploration, champion our communities’ spirit, and create shared moments of magic and joy. Discovery Green is symbolic of Houston itself, warm, culturally diverse, inclusive, and energetic.
Gala on the Green honored longtime President and Park Director Barry Mandel and Discovery Green Programming Director Susanne Theis, who has been leading the efforts to bring performing and visual arts to the park since 2007. Thanks to their commitment, the park has been recognized locally and nationally for excellence in programming and management.
