Discovery Green, downtown Houston’s landmark urban park, is inviting Houstonians and visitors alike to experience the best of the city this summer during the Soccer Celebration presented by H-E-B at Discovery Green. Throughout June and July, the downtown park will showcase Houston’s culture, cuisine, creativity and community spirit through soccer-inspired events, free concerts, fitness classes, family programming, an outdoor movie.
As Houston takes center stage during this year’s international summer of soccer, Discovery Green is doing what it has always done: creating a vibrant gathering place where locals and visitors can experience the city together. The H-E-B Soccer Celebration will feature a curated lineup of food trucks serving global cuisine, free Sunday evening concerts spotlighting Houston’s diverse music scene, soccer skills workshops for kids and adults, line dancing, outdoor wellness programming and opportunities to enjoy the park’s signature amenities, from bumper boats and cruiser boats on Kinder Lake to the playground, fountains and green spaces.
Throughout the Soccer Celebration, HEB is inviting visitors to kick back, relax, and cool off while enjoying Discovery Green’s amenities. Fans can also expect surprise HEB pop-ups featuring H-E-B Creamy Creations ice cream samples and exclusive soccer-themed giveaways.
Food trucks with treats available include ChopnBlok with fresh West-African cuisine, Souzie’s TropicalCreations featuring Caribbean and afro-fusion cuisine And We Luv Spudz barbeque and stuffed potatoes.
Every Thursday in June, Discovery Green will stay open later for Park After Dark, inviting families to enjoy cooler evening hours downtown with music, dancing, games and outdoor fun. Saturdays expect Soccer Summer: Kicks and Coffee featuring pickup games and soccer skills combined with coffee and sweet treats. Meanwhile, Screen on the Green presented by Vivian L. Smith Foundation will bring movie night to the lawn, while the Sunday Concert Series for Houston’s Summer of Soccer highlights local artists and cultural traditions from across the city.
Fitness presented by UTHealth Houston features free classes for all experience levels, including Yoga en Español, Gentle Yoga & Sound Bowl Healing, Hip Hop Yoga, Yoga Better, and Tai Chi, which is new to the park this year. Families can also enjoy hands-on creative programming, pickup soccer play and special community celebrations like International Day of Yoga and Make Music Day, both taking place on Sunday, June 21.

Enjoy casual soccer skills training and pickup play for kids and adults while enjoying a beverage or sweet treat. Futbolito en el Centro will be leading participants through games designed to improve skills and build excitement for the games. Perk up with Coffee Fellows, Houston’s electric vehicle coffee truck, which will have beverages for sale.

Bumper Boats and Cruiser Boats on Kinder Lake
Daily through September 7 from 10 am – 11 pm
Cool off in the heart of downtown Houston with bumper boats and cruiser boats on Kinder Lake at Discovery Green. Visitors can race, spin and splash in bumper boats or enjoy a relaxing ride across the lake aboard shaded electric-powered cruiser boats.
Bumper boats seat up to two people and cruiser boats seat up to five people, making them a perfect activity for friends and families enjoying Houston’s summer of soccer downtown.
Tickets are $12 for bumper boats, $25 for cruiser boats or $30 for a boating bundle experience. Tickets may be purchased in advance at discoverygreen.com. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult on bumper boats. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult on cruiser boats.

Park After Dark
Thursdays, June 4 – 25 from 7 – 10 pm
Every Thursday this June enjoy the cooler evening hours with Park After Dark at Discovery Green. We’re leaving the fountains and lights on until late to encourage families to come out and play! Discovery Green’s beloved Rocket Dog “art cart,” will be on hand with plenty of games and toys to rent and the playground will be jumping. Our picnic tables have recently been painted with squares so bring your chess sets or checkers for a match. Or bring a blanket and lounge on the grass. Food trucks and vendors will be serving sweet treats and food.
As the sun sets, the dancing begins! Line dancing with Gretchen “The Legend” Jean begins at 7:30 pm followed by party led by DJ Boom Boom Williams.
International Day of Yoga / Make Music Day
Sunday, June 21 from 6 – 9 pm
During the summer solstice on June 21, International Day of Yoga is observed in 170 countries. In Houston the Consul General of India and Discovery Green will host a celebration featuring Bollywood Dancing, performances by advanced yogis and a guided yoga practice of movement, breath, sound, intention and stillness.
At 8 pm participants can walk a labyrinth while bathed in sound from many local musicians and healers as part of Make Music Day. As part of this day, we would like to give back to others. Please bring cans of food that will be used to outline the labyrinth path. After the event, the food will be donated to the Houston Food Bank.
Fitness presented by UTHealth Houston
