Día de los Muertos

Rooted in Mexican tradition, Día de los Muertos honors and remembers loved ones who have died. Discovery Green welcomes people of all backgrounds to share in this celebration of life, memory and connection.

Bring a photo or keepsake* to add to a stunning community ofrenda created by Houston-artist Angel Quesada. 

New this year: bring a copy of a photo or a keepsake for your pet to put on a special altar just for furry friends. 

Enjoy a Catrín y Catrinas Parade and contest as well as traditional performances, live music, food, crafts and vendors. 

The musical ofrenda, a high-energy tribute concert to legendary artists across Texas, is led by Houston’s own Nick Gaitan and the Tejas Roots Band. The concert will feature tributes to artists whose lives and work helped shape the sounds of our communities, including artists lost in 2026 such as Willie Colón, Fred Smith of Blondie, Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night, and Darryl Croft, alongside tributes celebrating the enduring legacies of Lydia Mendoza, Flaco Jiménez, Dolly Parton, and other influential regional artists. Joining Gaitan onstage will be Nicolas Valdez, accordion and vocals, Jewelz Melody, vocals, Charlie San Miguel on the drums, Paul Ramirez, guitar, Rochelle Sloan and Lara Gursoy on trombone, Vince Palumbo, on tenor sax, David Rios, percussion and Johnny Ono on keys.

Also new this year, the musical ofrenda will feature a visual showcase from contemporary artist Vincent Valdez. Valdez, who recently won a prestigious 2026 MacArthur Foundation grant, is known for powerful and narrative-driven imagery. His work will provide a profound visual backdrop to magnify the deep roots and heritage of the music. 

Visitors can expect a transformative night of music, art and community remembrance.
