Girlstart will hosted the following hands on activities beginning at 12pm (limited quantities available):

Balloon Boats:Be a structural engineer and create a boat that moves through water!Using a styrofoam plate, a balloon, and a straw, see how far and fast you can make your boat go!

Parachutes: Have you ever considered skydiving? Skydivers rely on parachutes to slow them down as they fall from scary heights. Engineer a parachute to help your “skydiver” land safely on the ground.

1-2pm Culturas Unidas / United Cultures dance workshop (AB Stage)

will hosted the following hands on activities beginning at 12pm (limited quantities available):

Drag Racing Spools: Explore mechanical energy by constructing, testing, and modifying a rubber band powered vehicle. Wind up your spool, race your friends, and see how far your vehicle can travel across the ground.

Gliders: It’s a bird... it’s a plane... it’s a glider! Design a styrofoam plate glider to soar through the air. Then experiment with different parts of your glider to see how they affect your flight path.

o Kids will have the opportunity to get up and close to some of their favorite trucks including construction vehicles, a HPD Helicopter, art cars and more!

Insta-Snow®: Have you ever wanted to play with fluffy snow even though it’s warm outside? Snow is only created during freezing temperatures, but now you can create and play with your own Insta-Snow and watch it fall to the ground before your eyes no matter how hot it is outside!

Robot Arm: Are you ready to be a robotics engineer?! Examine your arm, wrist, and hand, and brainstorm how you could reverse engineer these body parts to design your own robot arm prototype. Reverse engineering is when engineers design an object based on an existing object. Compare your “robot arm” to your arm and note their similarities and differences.

Amazing Birds: Have you ever noticed the similarities and differences between birds’ wings and an airplane? Explore the adaptations that help birds fly and investigate the wingspans of an albatross, falcon, and vulture. Determine how a bird’s wingspan affects flight and design an airplane that will remain in flight for as long as possible.

Sound Sandwich: Create your own musical instrument using tongue depressors, rubber bands, and a straw to explore how sound is caused by vibrations. Sound moves in waves, and different sized waves produce different pitches of sound. Experiment with your Sound Sandwich to find the perfect tune to play for your friends!

Gumdrop Dome:Imagine you are a structural engineer and you need to build a structure using only gumdrops and toothpicks! The challenge is you must design and build a structure that can hold the most weight without breaking. Will the strongest structure be a tower, a dome, an arch, or maybe something else? Test different ideas to find out.

Slime: Do you love to play with gooey slime? Create your very own slime with just a few ingredients. The slime goo, called polyvinyl alcohol, is a liquid polymer and when you add the cross-linker solution, or sodium tetraborate, it links the long strands of polyvinyl alcohol molecules so when you pull out one polyvinyl alcohol chain, all the rest comes with it in a blob!
