Recently installed in Spring 2014, a new 4,700-square-foot raised deck now sits adjacent to the Brown Promenade under the century-old live oak trees. The deck provides a shady place where visitors can relax, eat, read and enjoy the various sights and sounds of the park.
In keeping with the park’s mission, the deck is made from sustainable materials. It was constructed from eco-friendly Brazilian Ipe wood, a hardwood that is extremely durable and resistant to mold, weather, flames and pests and which can be found on other structures throughout the park.
Guests can relax on the deck and utilize a number of tables and chairs gifted to the park by the Kinder Foundation. Discovery Green is asking the public to donate funds for additional furniture with the “Save a Seat” campaign. Consider making a gift of $150 in honor or memory of a friend, family member or colleague, and Discovery Green will add an inscription to the back of one of the beautiful new chairs. Those who contribute $300 or more will receive reserved seating for two for a season of Thursday Concerts, in addition to the opportunity to add an inscription to the chairs.
