Discover Houston Music Showcase

The winners of Discover Houston Music Showcase!

Discovery Green’s mission is to shine a light on the diversity of traditions that exist in Houston. So programming director Susanne Theis reached out to Wonky Power to help Houston’s talented musicians and the city’s live music lovers find each other.

More than 80 Houston bands submitted applications for the Discover Houston Music Showcase.

The top 20 were selected by a team of music professionals and the public voted for their favorite. More than 5,000 votes were cast and now, Discovery Green is proud to announce the winning bands are:

Second runner up: Sugar Joiko

First runner up: Blossom Aloe

Winner:  The Creeps

The bands will play the Discovery Houston Music Showcase Saturday, Nov 4 from 7 – 10 pm. Emcee’s for the evening include Matt Graham of Swimwear Department and Rapper/Activist Genesis Blu.

The two runner ups receive $500 artist fees to play the showcase. The Creeps will receive $1000 artist fee along with a studio mix and produced video of one of their songs performed live. The bands will also have the opportunity to perform in the UHD Thursday Night Concert Series at Discovery Green in the spring.

The Discover Houston Music showcase is supported by the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Houston Music Advisory Board. All Houston musicians are encouraged to register for the Houston Music Directory.

MORE ABOUT THE BANDS

The Creeps:

The Creeps are a 4-piece hard-rock band that brings a raw, power-driven sound to the stage. The Houston based group began performing in the fall of 2020 and have not slowed down since. They’ve performed at popular city venues including White Oak Music Hall and The Houston Rodeo. Drawing inspirations from Grunge, Rock, and Heavy Metal, they blend these influences to create an energetic thunderous sound throughout their music and performances.

Blossom Aloe

Blossom Aloe is an indie rock quintet from Houston, TX. The band incorporates elements of bedroom-pop, psychedelia, and alternative rock into their sound, with no two songs sounding alike. Summer Days Heavy Rain is the band’s latest album featuring tracks Getaway and You’re Telling Me. Now, Blossom Aloe continues to write/record new music and play shows across Texas.

Sugar Joiko

Sugar Joiko is a contemporary pop singer with a harmonious edge of soul meets synth wave. A girl gamer with an addiction to Japanese culture, this New Orleans native is a deft song maker whose global influence for composition and songwriting make her a unique and fresh addition in today’s realm of pop music.

Anheuser-Busch Stage

The Anheuser-Busch Stage is a state-of-the-art outdoor concert venue, with audio and lighting systems designed to enhance the unique diversity of Houston’s performing and visual arts, as well as all musical genres. The backdrop of the stage is a magnificent view of Houston’s downtown skyline. The stage faces the Fondren Performance Space, with convenient access from Avenida de las Americas and the George R. Brown Convention Center. The stage can accommodate an oversized movie screen, with projection capabilities for outdoor movies, audio/visual slideshows and presentations, and live feeds.
