Writing Workshops with Writers in the Schools

Wordsmiths, storytellers and creative young scholars are invited to this free, monthly drop-in writing workshop with Writers in the Schools. These workshops are designed to unlock the joy and power of self-expression while promoting time spent unplugged from devices and connected with nature. All you need is your mind. Bringing your favorite notebook is optional.  

Meet Your WITS Writer: Alina Lugo

Alina Lugo is a Houston-based writer, editor at Purple Ink Press, and EFL tutor. She holds a master’s in World Cultures and Literatures from the University of Houston. Through her writing, she aims to highlight different creatives (authors, artists, etc.), apply literary arts to our lives, and expand minds through literature. Her non-fiction work includes literary analysis, reviews, translations, and event coverage, while her creative work focuses on poetry. She writes bilingually (English/Spanish) on her blog and for Diaspora, a Mexican cultural journal. Other publications include an analysis of Julia de Burgos’ poetry in El Mundo Zurdo 10 and Spanglish poetry in The Bayou Review. Lugo has experience with writing consultancy and community outreach, including writing workshops with underserved youth and intercultural presentations. She is currently working on developing a multilingual poetry project that spotlights ESL students and honors Houston’s rich linguistic landscape.
