Re-opening Celebration: The Hill on the John P. McGovern Playground

The hill on the John P McGovern Playground is a well-loved attraction at Discovery Green. Every weekend hundreds of children run up and roll down with pure joyful abandon. However, those years of enthusiastic play have taken a toll. The hill will be closed from Feb 9 – Feb 13 while new turf is installed and the area receives a nice glow up. Did you know the hill is the only place in Discovery Green that uses astroturf? The rest of our 12-acres is all natural!
You’re invited to celebrate with us when it reopens.
On Saturday, Feb 14 from 2-4 pm enjoy crafts with the Discovery Green ambassadors, borrow toys and games from Rocket Dog and run up and down the hill to your heart’s content!

The $2.3 million playground area completes improvements to the park’s northwest corner, an area bordered by La Branch and McKinney Streets, as part of the Discovery Green Conservancy’s $13.3 million park-wide master plan improvement project.
