The opening of the Ice Rink at Discovery Green is a party. Expect ice-skating demonstrations, costumed characters from Frozen, stilt-walkers and more! A portion of your ticket price goes to support the park and provide free programming to all including this winter’s art installation, Chromatic Forest by Houston art collective Moon Papas underwritten by PNC.

Chromatic Forest: A Study of Line and Light is an interactive geometric light installation consisting of eight 16-foot-tall sculptures creating seemingly impossible arrangements of form and color. Suspended under the magnificent live oaks along the Brown Promenade in the heart of Discovery Green, the sculptures’ hard lines and washes of dynamic color coexist with the organic lines of the trees. As visitors stroll through the installation, they’ll discover the colors and patterns playfully change as they approach each piece.

Friday from 6 – 8pm
Come and discover the Chromatic Forest with the Loop Institute featuring an interactive evening of art, light and real-life geometry! Families are invited to experiment, build and discover the science behind what we see, from bending light and optical illusions to the geometry of bubbles. Three fun and creative workshops are planned to explore the possibilities of refraction, the anatomy of light and geometric shapes.
Expect a cash bar with cocktails and hot chocolate for the kids to help get you in the merry spirit.
