Family Happy Hour
November 13, 2026
Come and discover the Chromatic Forest underwritten by PNC with the Loop Institute featuring an interactive evening of art, light, and real-life geometry! Families are invited to experiment, build, and discover the science behind what we see, from bending light and optical illusions to the geometry of bubbles.
Station 1: Refraction
Demonstrate how various lenses (convex, concave, triangular) refract light.
Participants will use liquid in 2 beakers and see one disappear. Participants can
also draw images and use liquid in a container to observe the image being inverted
Station2: Anatomy of light
Visitors may interact with anatomical models of the human eye and brain and see for themselves how images are inverted as they hit the retina and cross over to the opposite side of the brain for processing.
Station 3: 3D geometric shape bubble station
Participants will construct a bubble wand that creates 3D bubbles while exploring the science behind surface tension.
