Among the many sounds of spring heard at Discovery Green, one of our favorites is an enthusiastic crowd on the hill rocking out to great local music. Now the Thursday Concert Series presented by the University of Houston-Downtown is in full swing, music fans have a lot to cheer about (and look forward to)!

We work with a wide variety of music experts who understand our programming goals and Houston’s local music scene to bring the best of Texas Gulf Coast musicians to the park each week. Our goal is to bring a little bit of every kind of music heard throughout our diverse city. Funk, Latin Rock, Zydeco, pop and more – it can all be heard on the hill!
Here’s a few highlights of the sensational line up:

  • Five of Texas’ finest female musicians will team up on May 9 to form the Texas Guitar Women. Get to the hill early to secure your spot to witness Carolyn Wonderland, Cindy Cashdollar, Shelley King, Sarah Brown, and Lisa Pankratz together on stage! Opening for the group is living legend, a member of Bob Will’s Texas Playboys, inventor of the steel guitar and Discovery Green neighbor, Herb Remington! It’s going to be a full night of fantastic country music, and as an added Texas treat, check out The Grove’s grilling tent with corn for $3 and scrumptious tacos for $3.50! Plus, catch a sneak peek of the 26th Annual Orange Show Art Car Parade!
  • What do Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, The Allman Brothers, and Waylon Jennings have in common? They have all recorded Billy Joe Shaver’s songs! Hear them all here on May 30!

There’s much more music in store, and concerts are scheduled through June 27! Grab a lawn chair, picnic basket, and a friend and rock out each week at each of the fun, free concerts! To find out more about the weekly music series, see here.
