Experience Architects of Air!

Throughout 2013, Discovery Green will celebrate its 5th birthday, and we knew we wanted to kick off the celebration in a big way. What bigger way than with an art installation reaching 30 feet in the air and spanning the length of half a football field? After seeing pictures and visiting the luminarium on its first visit to Texas at the Long Center in Austin, we knew Architects of Air’s luminarium Exxopolis was perfect for Discovery Green.

While offering a visually stunning experience (prepared to be truly amazed!), Exxopolis also met many of our programming goals. Visitors both young and old can learn from this giant, walkable artwork. Inspired by Islamic architecture, the creators developed a structure utilizing geometric patterns. You can easily identify an array of shapes, colors and elements from Gothic architecture, as well. When the sunlight streams through the vibrant domes and pathways, it creates an incredible, mesmerizing effect!

Bringing an international sculpture to our incredibly diverse city was also an important factor for us, and Architects of Air offers a cross-cultural appeal with its luminariums. Architects of Air has exhibited its luminariums in 39 countries across five continents, and we are thrilled to bring Exxopolis to Discovery Green for its first Houston visit.

We simply couldn’t find a better way to celebrate our fifth year than with Architects of Air’s Exxopolis! It’s BIG, it’s unique, and you certainly don’t want to miss this celebration! Check here for dates, times and ticket prices. When you visit, be sure to share your experiences with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by using the hashtag #DGArchitectsofAir.
