Fridays: Teen Craft, 1pm

Saturdays: Young Writers Workshop, 10:30am

Summer reading Program Performances, 1pm

Please note: ending time for each event varies.

Read and get rewarded!

From June 1, 2017 through August 1, 2017, you register, read, record your hours, earn rewards… and it’s all FREE with the Houston Public Library’s Summer Reading Program!

And the rewards are great… Astro Tickets, Train Tickets, Meal Passes and more! Plus, you do NOT have to live inside the Houston city limits to participate in the program!



All you need to do is:
1. General Registration begins June 1, 2017.  Just go HERE (starting June 1).
2. Log in anytime to track the minutes and titles you’ve read.
3. Unlock badges by logging minutes and attend attending programs – don’t forget to stay for the secret code!
4. Some activities require registration; check the online calendar.

Writers in the Schools, HPL Express and Discovery Green, team up to offer Houston's only free and open writing workshop for kids. Funded in part by a grant from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance, HPL Express, Writers in the Schools, and Discovery Green.

Class is limited to 25 students on a first-come, first-served basis.


Happy the Clown

Time: 1:00PM - 1:45PM

Age Group: appropriate for all ages, kids ages 5-10, preschoolers ages 3-5 years, toddlers ages 18-36 months

This high energy show includes magic tricks, jokes, tons of fun, games, contests and lots of audience participation.

Andyroo & the Andyrooniverse

Time: 1:00PM - 1:45PM

Age Group: appropriate for all ages, preschoolers ages 3-5 years, kids ages 5-10

All songs are poems. Can all poems be songs? Find out with songwriter Andyroo and the Andyrooniverse! In this program, kids will work together to learn about and investigate rhyme and meter in poetry and attempt to create their own poems and songs with help from Andyroo.

STEM @ Your Library - Chaos Tower

Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Age Group: Kids 5-10, tweens 9-12, Teens 13-18

Much more than just a tower, these creations soon resemble the world's biggest game of Mouse Trap. The perpetual motion models feature tons of stunt pieces for designing loop-de-loops and hair-raising turns. A long chain-drive lift, chimes, trampolines, basket elevators, and swirling vortexes send the Chaos Tower balls rolling and flying into action. Each move triggered by the one before it, the path of your ball is entirely up to you. Decide its destiny over and over again, because there are so many configurations to experiment with.

The Aztec Princess - Travel to Mexico with us on an exciting journey through time and fantasy. The Princess's amazing adventures celebrate and explore the rich history of Aztec and Mayan culture. A storytelling favorite.

Sharpie Tie Dye

Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Age Group:  Teens 13-18

Participants use droppers, rubbing alcohol and sharpie markers to create tie dye items. **Participants will need to supply white cotton item to dye**

Houston Fire Department

Time: 1:00PM - 1:45PM

Age Group: preschoolers ages 3-5 years, kids ages 5-10, tweens ages 9-12

Fire fighters in a fire truck will arrive at a library to talk about fire safety. Participants will learn about a firefighter's gear and equipment as well as have a chance to explore a fire truck!
