Diverse Programming Set for Spring & Summer at Discovery Green

Free activities and unique cultural programs highlight the inaugural season of the new downtown park (HOUSTON – April 10, 2008) The much-anticipated new downtown park – Discovery Green – will open on April 13, 2008. Discovery Green Conservancy Announces
Several New Appointments

HOUSTON, TX (October 2, 2007) – Following the Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Discovery Green Conservancy, a private non-profit created to develop and operate the downtown park, the Conservancy announced several new appointments:

Tom Castro was elected to the Board of Directors of the Conservancy effective July 1, 2007, to serve a term of three years. Castro is Founder and Vice Chairman of the Board of Border Media Partners (BMP), the largest privately-held Hispanic radio company in the U.S. Castro joins board members Nancy G. Kinder, Kinder Foundation, Chair; Brady F. Carruth, The Wortham Foundation; Dr. Larry R. Faulkner, Houston Endowment Inc.; Jacqueline S. Martin, JS Martin Associates, LP; and Dr. Maconda B. O’Connor, The Brown Foundation, Inc.

Bob Eury was appointed Ex-Officio Board Director of the Conservancy effective July 1, 2007, to serve at the pleasure of the Conservancy Board. Eury currently serves as President of Central Houston, Inc. and Executive Director of the Houston Downtown Management District.

Guy Hagstette was appointed President of the Conservancy effective July 1, 2007. Hagstette was previously appointed as Park Director in September 2005, after working with Mayor Bill White as a Special Assistant for Urban Design and, at the same time, serving as Director of Planning & Development for the Houston Downtown Management District.

About the Discovery Green Conservancy
The Discovery Green Conservancy is a private, non-profit corporation formed to purchase the land, design, build, and operate an urban park on property located across the street from the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston. The Conservancy and Mayor Bill White announced the 11.78-acre park development in October 2004, and acquisition of the land was concluded in December 2004. The $122 million park project is expected to be complete in early 2008.

Gift from BP America to Discovery Green Focuses on Solar Technology

Jean Dubuffet's Monument Au Fantome to Move to Discovery Green

HOUSTON, TX (July 2, 2007) – Renowned French painter and sculptor Jean Dubuffet’s (1901-1985) “Monument Au Fantome” will find a new home at Houston’s downtown park, Discovery Green. The distinctive and privately-owned sculpture was donated by Fantome Tower L.P., the owner of the downtown office building at 1100 Louisiana, to the Discovery Green Conservancy, a gift valued at well over $1,000,000. The seven-piece black, red, white and blue sculpture will move from its current location at 1100 Louisiana to undergo conservation work. Downtown developer donates trees in preparation for new apartment tower

HOUSTON, TX - November 18, 2006 - Marvy Finger and the Finger Companies, Discovery Green and Harris County Pct. 3 Commissioner Steve Radack want to keep Houston green by relocating trees from the downtown block that Finger is developing as One Park Place, a 37-story luxury apartment building, adjacent to Discovery Green, the new downtown park. The Finger Companies’ offer to donate the trees currently on the property, in preparation for a January groundbreaking, was accepted by Discovery Green and Commissioner Radack who are each paying relocation costs. “It is wonderful that these trees are being moved,” states Kathy Lord, president of Trees for Houston. “It is really important to preserve the canopy of tress downtown. Please be aware of some guidelines for your visit to the park. Discovery Green is a safe and comfortable place for everyone because of our Park Rules. All commercial film, video and photo shoots to take place in Discovery Green park require a permit and will be assessed a site fee. A commercial shoot includes, both shoots by commercial photographers/videographers and film companies as well as shoots that require access to any area of the park that is restricted. A Discovery Green permit is required for commercial shooting in the entire park, stairs, entrances and sidewalks surrounding the park. The Discovery Green Conservancy reserves the right to deny a permit for a shoot that requires significant restrictions on the use of any area of the park. Why is there a fee to hold a commercial shoot in a public park? A large part of Discovery Greens earned revenue comes from fees charged to those who wish to use the park space for their own profitable, promotional, or exclusive use. Discovery Green Opened April 13, 2008 The new 12-acre downtown park celebrated its official opening on Sunday, April 13. Mayor Bill White and members of the Discovery Green Conservancy kicked off the festivities with a green ribbon cutting, special appearance by the Budweiser Clydesdales, performance by the Kaminari Taiko Drummers and a Car Horn Concerto.
