Discovery Green Thursday Concert Series returns Spring 2010
Free outdoor concerts at the downtown park feature region’s most exciting bands

Discovery Green Thursday Concert Series presented by Capital One Bank returns in May and June 2010. The seasonal concert series continues to grow in popularity with terrific attendance last year. What better way to kick off spring by spending an evening at the beautiful downtown Houston park listening to some of the best musicians in Texas?

Voted “Best Concert Series” by the Houston Press, the free, family-friendly concerts begin May 6 and run every Thursday through June 24. Bring a blanket, co-workers, and friends to dance, sing and chill on the hill with some of the region’s most exciting bands.

Concessions are also available at The Lake House. Don’t miss the sweet potato fries or the fresh basil lemonade. Blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics are welcome, but please do not bring glass containers or alcoholic beverages into the park. Co-sponsored by Saint Arnold Brewing Company, 103.7 KHJK FM, Houston Press, Cactus Music, and KPFT 90.1 FM.

May 6 CJ Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band
Known as the crown prince of zydeco, C.J. Chenier inherited the family business, building Clifton Chenier's zydeco legacy while leading his band on forays into funk, blues, and swamp-pop. Saint Arnold Brewing Company will offer double reward points for people recycling their Saint Arnold 6 pack carriers at Discovery Green during this concert.

May 13
SKYROCKET!

A wickedly original party band, SKYROCKET! brings everyone to their feet with a relentless and wildly entertaining mix of disco, glam rock, soft rock and soul one-hit wonders. Download high-res photo.

May 20 – Soulhat
The hip-shaking, earth-quaking rock of Soulhat defined a generation. Their intuitive rhythms and hypnotic beat will take you back while raising you up to a new level of funk. Saint Arnold Brewing Company will offer double reward points for people recycling their Saint Arnold 6 pack carriers at Discovery Green during this concert.

May 27 – Buxton and The Small Sounds
Buxton and the Small Sounds each bring dynamic hooks, thoughtful instrumentation, and powerful writing to their indie-infused, folk-inspired blend of Americana. Catch them on the upswing and brag about it later.

June 3 – Los Skarnales plus Karina Nistal
Una buena fusion of ska, pachuco boogie, old school funk and rockabilly with a pinch of punk, Los Skarnales can barely be contained by any stage. Karina Nistal's pumping freestyle sets the perfect tone.

June 10 – Mike Stinson plus Robert Ellis and The Boys
Mike Stinson calls his music "tear-in-your-beer honky-tonk and barnyard rock and roll." Dwight Yoakam likes it so much, he's recorded several of Mike's songs. Come hear Mike and meet Robert Ellis & The Boys for a great night on the hill.

June 17 – Sara Hickman plus Leah White and The Magic Mirrors
Official Texas State Musician for 2010, Sara Hickman's soulful voice and ardent melodies inspire audiences of all ages. Special opening set from Leah White, Nickelodeon's Parent's Choice Award for Best Entertainer/ Music for 2009.

June 24 – Joe King Carrasco plus David Beebe and The Conrads
It's a Party Party Weekend any time Joe King Carrasco, high-energy leader of the Nuevo Wavo, takes the stage.  David Beebe & The Conrads get things started with rousing renditions of Gulf Coast classics. Saint Arnold Brewing Company will offer double reward points for people recycling their Saint Arnold 6 pack carriers at Discovery Green during this concert.
