Become a Park Volunteer
Spring Break Week presented by BG Group Twenty Volunteers are needed each day Monday, March 16th through Friday, March 20th to help with various events planned for children and families. Volunteers will help Girlstart present activities in the areas of mechanical energy, chemistry, astronomy and engineering for both girls and boys. Children will launch their own straw rockets, construct and race rubber band-powered vehicles, build and fly gliders, create gooey slime and more. Discovery Green will also offer HGO To Go! Storybook Opera, fairytale blasts and a foam party throughout the week. Activities are held from 10am to 4pm. Shifts are 9:30am to noon, 11:45am to 2:15pm, and 2pm to 4:30pm.
FUNomenal Family Festival50 Volunteers are needed to help with the day-long, family friendly festival on Saturday, March 7th. Activities will include helping to monitor rides and foam parties, helping with our Baby Olympics, assembling prize baskets and helping with registration, wearing character costumes, helping with our Info Booth, and more. Shifts are 8am to 11am, 12pm to 3pm, 3pm to 6:30pm, and 9am to 6pm.
Screen on the GreenThree Volunteers are needed to help set up the Discovery Green Information booth, greet guests as they enter the park, help guide seating on the hill, and help staff the Info booth to distribute brochures, sell merchandise and collect email addresses for the park’s weekly e-blast. Shift is 6-8pm.
Discovery Green FleaVolunteers are needed to help set up a Discovery Green Info booth, give information out to vendors and patrons, and to help in other various ways as necessary. Volunteers are needed before, during and after the Flea Market. Shifts are 10am - 12pm, 12pm – 2pm, 2pm – 4pm and 4pm - 6pm.
Recycling SaturdaysRecycling at Discovery Green takes place every Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Recycling volunteers help patrons take items out of their cars so they don’t have to park to recycle. Volunteers will also help ensure that the items are put into the correct recycling bins. Volunteers choose between two shifts: 11am - 12:30pm or 12:30pm - 2pm.
Signature EventsThere are a variety of Signature Events at the park. They are generally held on Fridays and Saturdays in the Spring and Fall. Each one is different and unique, so volunteer duties will vary.
General Volunteer InformationVolunteers should arrive about 10-15 minutes before their shift to allow time to go into the office, meet the Discovery Green volunteer leader, get a Volunteer T-shirt and instructions. Parking is $1.25 per hour at the meters around the park Monday through Saturday (and free after 6 p.m.). Parking lots are about $5.00 and up. Always read the posted signs, which supersede any instruction from park staff.
