The ArtThe playful and nostalgic ambience of ice rink’s artistic flair inspires all who visit. The rink’s art-glass railings and the mural kiosks-- are a part of the active buzz of the park. The colors within the glass railings dance across the ice and throw light brilliantly in the daytime.
This true art installation was designed by Ice Rink Events partner Lena Gottschall, with her lifetime of world-travels as inspiration, and as an accomplished professional graphic designer, architect, photographer, and artist.
The MusicThe music at the rink frames the artistic expression of this unique urban setting. From Thanksgiving through December 24th, the music collection mixes recognizable Christmas songs with innovative, upbeat urban/world beats, which is meant to please all generations and all preferences. After the holidays, modern collections of jazz, classical, swing, and international hits are featured-- music which not only has dance beats, but has positive, uplifting, meaningful lyrics. Enjoy!

The InspirationThe Ice is dedicated to Houstonians Jack Bennett and Evelyn Hoop Bennett. Jack and Evelyn met in 1936 on the ice at Houston’s old Polar Wave Ice Palace, just blocks away from Discovery Green. The couple fell in love on the ice, married, and continued to skate their entire life, well into their 80’s. Until just recently, the distinguished Mr. and Mrs. Bennett glided around the ice hand-in-hand, Jack in his coat and tie, Evelyn always graceful in a stylish dress and pom-pom-topped skates. A true love story on the ice. A truly inspiring couple for skaters of all ages.
